Freeze Drying – Lyophilisation
NCIMB offers a convenient freeze drying service that can help you to maintain and preserve your own stock cultures.
Many laboratories maintain their own collection of stock cultures for production, research or QC use, but repeated subculturing can leave these cultures vulnerable to contamination and genetic drift.
Freeze drying, or lyophilisation, is one of the most reliable methods for preparing bacterial cultures for long term storage, and at NCIMB we have decades of experience of using this method to preserve our own reference collection.
We can freeze dry your cultures and return them to you ready for long term storage, or in a QC format.
We can also advise on the suitability of different species for freeze drying and have an extensive library of media recipes for resuscitation.
