Academic storage package
Let NCIMB safeguard your microbial assets, so you can focus on your research and the next big breakthough. Our academic storage package ensures your work remains protected and reproducible by ensuring that your important strains are preserved and stored confidentially in an off-site location.
Why should you consider an off-site backup?
Fires, natural disasters, power failure, equipment malfunction, and human error can all result in devastating set-backs for R&D projects, and the loss or delay of publication or commercialisation opportunities.
A well publicised example is the blaze in the biomedical building at St Andrews University in 2019, where researchers faced a race against time to extract freezers from the scene - waiting for the fire to be extinguished and power to be cut before they could enter with assistance of the fire brigade, in an attempt to save the biological material on which their research and careers depended.
In another more recent example, it was reported that a university janitor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York turned off a freezer after hearing multiple "annoying alarms" ruining more than 20 years of research, and resulting in a $million lawsuit.
In both of these cases, the availability of an offsite backup could have eased the situation considerably.
